All the home owners who feel very excited about having remodel kitchen and flooring and in excitement after seeing lot of ads in Facebook and google review and they give the work to General Contractor.

Since majority of this home owners they embark in this journey first time , they don’t realize where they are heading.

They start getting by looking into affordable and cost effective general contractor and end of choosing one of them. Since home owner dream’s is high but they don’t want to pay high premium that’s where these General Contractor come into picture and they sell the dream by saying all can be done with Certain time range.

These first timer home owner since they don’t have experience without going into the details of contract they sign the half cooked contract and they end up paying 70 to 80% of total contractual payment in first 1 or 2 week.

Now this is where the panful part starts . if the work is strait forward for example building pavement, walk way or garage concreate or retaining wall or room extension where there is not much architectural challenge. The most likely you can get the work done as per schedule.

But if your remodel includes shifting the kitchen or moving the gas line or breaking the wall and putting the new beam.. majority of this contractors does not have very depth knowledge or experience and these home owner get caught into fire. Since these home owners has already paid 75% payment , they left with no option and their life become hell living in the same home where everything is broken.

The contractor initially who were very animated and responsive will put you on back burner and they will take another contracting job somewhere else. you suffer every day like hell, you feel if 75% payment is done then 75% work is also done then why the hell work is going on for 12 weeks even these contractor will not give you any timeline or date. In my case i have a depression now and taking a medicine to balance. Unfortunate part is you can’t take any legal action because the contract is half cooked and no penalty or punishments. I’m about to consult one of business friend’s legal agency and may end of taking action soon.

In this process both party are responsible. first of all , Home owner must understand the contract payment model and don’t pay 75% money in first 1 or 2 week rather make it more practical. if you do so mostly contractor will deny the work which is good for home owner. Find a good contractor who charges little high but I promise it worth it.
